Guide for entering
Step 1: Taking Photos
Each entry requires 5 photos of the mouse. One photo should show the full size of the mouse next to a dollar bill, for scale. All photos should be taken in natural light and be on a neutral background. Any editing of photos (other than cropping images) will disqualify the participant entirely. Photos must be taken during the entry period. Old photos, even of current mice, cannot be accepted.
- Scale/overhead photo: This photo should be taken from above. The mouse should not be looking at the camera.
- Side photos (2): A photo of each side of the mouse.
- Head photo: This photo should be taken at the eye level of the mouse in order to get the best possible look at its head/face.
- Belly photo: A photo of the underside of the mouse, including the vent.
Step 2: Collecting Data
Each entry requires the following information:
- Breeder of the mouse
- Breeder’s mousery/stud name
- Mouse’s name*
- Mouse’s sex
- Mouse’s age
- Mouse’s variety**
*Mouse names are important if you have multiple mice in the same class so that we can distinguish between them, especially if they’re of the same variety!
** Please be as specific as possible with the variety, e.g. instead of just “angora” put “black pied merle angora satin” If you aren’t sure what your mouse is, you can totally post a photo on the Facebook group or in the Mouse Photos channel of the Discord.
Step 3: Entering the Show
Our virtual show this time will be on our new Discord server! Members who want to enter but don’t use Discord can email in your entries, one email per entry.
Once you’ve joined the Discord, you’ll see a forum channel for each class. Classes are the larger groups of varieties, including Self (solid colored mice), Marked (color-on-white mice), Coated (non-standard coat types), and so on. You can see all the show varieties organized by class by clicking Show Standards at the top of any page on our website.
After you’ve found the right class for your mouse, you’ll make a post in that channel with your mouse’s information and including all five photos. Please make separate posts for each mouse.
Entries missing information or required photos will not be submitted for judging, so please double check that your entry is complete. Click or tap on the name of the class, then use the plus button to attach your photos and type your mouse’s data in the text box before pressing the send button.
If you have more mice to enter in the same class, you’ll use the same plus button and text box to make a new message. If you’ve got mice to enter into a different class, you’ll use the arrow button in the top-left to open the correct class and follow the same procedure.
Step 4: Waiting for Judging
Our judges will come through once the entries have closed to individually evaluate each mouse. Those evaluations will be posted in full in the Mouse Minute for your perusal, along with the results of the show. Each mouse has to be evaluated individually, then judged against the others in its class. Judges will then take the best mice from each class to determine our top honors for the show, picking out the overall best mouse, the best mouse of the opposite age group, and the best mouse of the opposite sex. For example, if the best in show is an adult male, then the best opposite age will be a mouse under eight weeks of age, and the best opposite sex will be a female.
Good luck, and we’ll see you in the Discord!
